The flowers used in these images have an association with death based on the Victorian language of flowers. Each flower series consists of 12 identical transparencies which were cut up into individual frames and then buried together, using a different graveyard for each series of 12 images. Every day one transparency from each series was dug up, washed and dried. At the end of the twelve days the images were scanned and the physical decay over time can clearly be seen in each series.
Different graveyards with different soils give different results, some decaying much more quickly than others. This is due to the differing soil acidity and local weather conditions.
